6-Year Old Boy Brings Out the Best in Shelter Dogs

Every Thursday afternoon, 6-year old Jacob Tumalan visits the Carson Shelter in Gardena, California to read to the shelter dogs. Jacob, diagnosed with autism, seems to have a special connection with the dogs that is profoundly calming. As a result of his weekly visits, Jacob is also getting better with his reading and now reads at a 3rd grade level. Spending time with the dogs has also helped Jacob handle loud and unexpected noises more easily.
